Cane Class Glass Shoppe Ottawa

Seven keen students who rarely used the technique of cane-making before. And they all did it. They all made small flower cane. Components first day and day after the assembly. Done. Piece a cake. Yay!
Got me all worked up, I think I will go home and make me one of those.
Thank you Glass Shoppe!
Glass Shoppe is offering classes with excellent teachers in a close future.
Watch out for Holly Cooper and others.

WOW! Glass Shoppe Ottawa

Arrived in Ottawa Friday early afternoon to set up for the trunk show and a demo. Oh Dear Grace! What an AMAZING space! Wow. Very impressive. See for yourself, and if visiting Ottawa make sure to stop by. The Glass Shoppe Studio. And I almost fell over to find out I will be making the demo piece in front of 25 people! I kind a thought that may be it be just three of us, sipping wine talking glass. Demo cane went well. I did not drop or burn anything too badly. Was finished in just about an hour. Thank you everyone for coming! It was awesome.

I will also be doing demo and having a trunk show, how exiting!

I think there is ONE spot left in the class.

Murine Demystified: Signature Cane and Flower

Students will learn simple and fast murine techniques. Building a "dough-like" mass of glass and than pulling it into a bar to be cut into segments that than can be applied to a bead or pendant.

Day one:

We will analyze and plan the design: breaking the desired idea into its smallest possible components, planning step by step. Students will learn molten glass application and specific use of heat. The actual construction of the small component will follow; two letters, flower stamen and petals will be completed and annealed over night.

Day two:
Following the plan and design construction the final complex cane will be assembled, using components made previous day. The whole glass mass will be heated and pulled into a bar of desired diameter size. Students will learn the advantage of using boro-silicate punties and hotplate to pre heat components. Segment of a final cane will be cut into chips and application and use of such chip explained.
