Food preservation madness

This is picture of my dear grandmothers basement. She is 92 now, and can not leave fallen apple on a ground, it all has to be preserved, saved, because later it will be handy. You can bet on it. I have taken the above picture last year. Some of the jars are dated early fifties. Not kidding. The need to save food for later certainly runs in my vains, although I hope to eat all of this by next spring. All my jars are from this year. We did have a great harvest.

Project of the whole summer

I really wanted to paint those old beat up stairs. Than I thought well, I should probably patch all those holes. Got cement and went to work. Did you know newly set cement is not to be painted for over 30 days? I did not. What a bummer, of course something that is suppose to take couple of days will now stretch over several months. After that long wait I finally got to paint. Could not be happier with the results.

Blueberries picking

I have planted eight blueberry bushes last year, and anticipated at least enough fruit for a pie, so did every bird in the whole village. I managed to eat ONE blueberry. They win. Luckily there is a beautiful local patch.
Oragnic Blueberries, picked for you or you pick. Link here.

Fireplace reno final reveal

It is finished. Only took us seven months to actually pull through, but it is done at last. Probably the most complex, demanding house renovation we have ever done to date. So happy with the way it turned out. Now the winter can really come along.

Dear grandma, let`s talk kitchen.

The place where we spent our summers at, the place I saw preserves and the process of making them for the first time. Some of most amazing meals I have ever ate. The space untouched and unchanged for over sixty years. The most amazing kitchen I have ever seen.

Work continues

...but my Grandpas antlers are hanging. Very important. Fireplace fans still to be installed, grout applied and than trim, stain and varnish to be finished. This will probably never end.

Fireplace saga continues

Celebrating the work holiday with work. Hearth is been tiled, mantel stripped, sanded, raised and depth added, concrete insert surround added...Can not believe we are still at it, something we both thought would take two weeks tops, but, oh so close! I curse play-offs. Gawd dam time eater.

I got WOOD!

...might not sound like a big deal, but it is!
we need five and a half cords to survive one winter.
This is about half that.
One of our summer loved/hated activities is to stack.
